Farm To Table Animation

When you open a can of Libby’s vegetables, you’re taking a peek into that veggie’s journey—one that ends on your plate but begins on the farm. Along the way, we make sure that only the best vegetables are selected, prepared and shipped in the safest and smartest way. See how the vegetables that make it to your table are as fresh as they were at the farm.

Step 1 - Harvest

We pick vegetables at the peak of freshness. Any earlier and they would taste bland. Left to grow for too long and they become tough and stringy. Waiting for the harvesting sweet spot is the key to delicious veggies.

Step 2 - Sort and Cut

Sorting through the harvest is how we select the best of the best. Once we’ve found the veggies that stand out from the rest, we remove any stems and cut them all to the same size to help simplify your recipe.

Step 3 - Wash

Just because vegetables grow in dirt doesn’t mean you should eat the dirt—it can contain harmful bacteria. We wash, scrub and soak all of our veggies thoroughly to ensure all dirt is fully removed.

Step 4 - Blanch

Cooking vegetables quickly at high temperatures—known as blanching—stops the enzymes from acting in vegetables. This way they stay fresh and tasty in the can instead of over ripening and losing nutrients.

Step 5 - Can

Once the vegetables are prepped, they’re loaded into BPA-free cans. Libby’s pioneered the BPA-free can because we don’t believe in adding any outside chemicals. A smidgen of salt is added for flavor and the can is sealed.

Step 6 - Heat

After the cans are sealed airtight, they’re heated under steam pressure at very high temperatures. This process kills any microorganisms and preserves vegetables at their peak freshness for a longer shelf life.

Step 7 - Label

Lastly, we slap a Libby’s label on every can so you know you’re getting the best vegetables available. Since we own our own canneries and fleet of trucks, vegetables travel quickly from the farm to your table. Enjoy!
